What Do We do?
We build robots. But more specifically, we work together For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). Before kickoff, we meet only once a week to introduce each subgroup [Admin, Website, Animation, Controls, Mobitlity, Endefector, Finance, Outreach, Vex] and to get to know each other. Then, the team splits up into those subgroups that they personally choose and learn detailed information about it. All of this starts in September of each year so we have plenty of time to learn the functions of how to do things such as using 3dsMax, Easy C, and Inventor.
On the day of kickoff, we all sit together like a happy family and watch and listen to the rules of the new game. We then spend one week out of the six that we get to strategize (Stubots). Stubots is a game in which the students of the robotics team pretend to be a variety of different types of robots some with malfunctions, some without to see just how the game plays out and possible ideas for what we might want for our own robot.
By the end of the six weeks we are closer than ever and are excited for the competitions to begin. Competitions are always fun and we encourage all of our team members and their families to join in on the fun.
Then, September rolls around again and the process is repeated. :D
