Saturday, January 20, 2001

Today we worked on finishing our designs for the Critical Design Review in the afternoon, which prompted many questions from the audience.

Monday, January 15, 2001

We broke out into our sub-teams are started the design process:

  • Mobility: worked out the geometry
  • Frame: working on designing the base
  • Arm: designing the arm
  • Control: seeing what the system is capable of
  • Integration: Planning

Sunday, January 14, 2001

Today we chose which robot to use. A small tank-like robot was picked. Sub teams for construction were created.

Saturday, January 13, 2001

Parent meeting. Parts guys started testing parts. Sub teams made models of their robots designs. Field building was furthered.

Thursday, January 11, 2001

Evaluation criteria for the team were passed out along with motor specs. We broke into smaller groups and worked on designing robots. At the end we each had 30 seconds to present out ideas.

Wednesday, January 10, 2001

People went to Marshall for a local meeting and representatives were sent to a PTA meeting. The strategy team presented possible scoring plans.

Tuesday, January 9, 2001

Today the parent meeting was announced, money was collected for the rules, and registration papers were collected. The shop went through a major cleanup. The parts and strategy subteams had meetings. Developed quantifiable evaluation criteria

Monday, January 8, 2001

Regarding Evaluation Criteria: Many criteria were developed during the night while brainstorming various options for aspects of the design of the robot.

Saturday & Sunday, January 6 & 7, 2001

Regarding Scheduling: Mr. Tripp has discussed policies regarding inclement weather schedules, please see the scheduling page for more information.

Regarding temporary committees: Mr. Tripp established a StuBot construction committee, a final playing field committee, and a kit-parts cataloging committee. Peter Jaffe established a drive-shaft construction committee (led by Justin Koca and Ruth Dickey) and a drill-motor mount design & construction committee (led by Justin Hirt).

Regarding StuBot: Joe Parrish took extensive notes on the StuBot exercise and strategy. We have these notes posted here.

Regarding Documentation Printing: Hashmatt Answari is in the process of printing extensive copies of the rules. Students may purchase booklets for approximately $20.

Thursday, December 21, 2000

Regarding Travel: Mrs. Murtland has found a slightly more expensive flight that would allow the team to forego several other expenses. If combined with a small number of students in attendence, the prices might drop below $300. As of the meeting, only fifteen students had paid, less than half, so chances of a low attendence are good. Anyone who hasn't turned in money must by Friday, December 22, 2000.

Regarding the Kickoff: the team has decided not to host other teams at the January 6th national kickoff broadcast viewing. However, at the suggestion of Dave Lavery and the concurrance of the rest of the team, that meeting shall be mandatory for all team members.

Regarding Scheduling & Rules: Starting on January 8th, we will begin meeting at 7:00pm (this time may eventually change) every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, as well as an indeterminate time on Saturdays. This schedule will probably change towards the end of the construction process but stands for the time being. The shop should be open seven days a week eventually, as Mr. Tripp, Ms. Bobzien, and Mr. Meyer have coordinated a rotating schedule. This will allow groups to come in and work solidly on design and construction and to meet deadlines. Also regarding the six weeks: the Industry division needs to organize three committees: a temporary StuBot playing field construction committee (under the Shop Management section), a permanent playing field construction committee (also under the Shop Management section), and an evaluation-criteria formulation committee. The first two committees must be in place by the January 6th kickoff meeting. Mr. Tripp also discussed other details of the six weeks, including StuBot and the some of the brainstorming process.

Monday, December 18, 2000

The first hour was dedicated to finishing the construction and testing of the prototype-competition robots. Following, Mr. Tripp led a discussion of the scheduling options for the next few meetings. Specifically, we decided to meet at 9:00am (the core time is 10:00am to 2:00pm) in the Lecture Hall on Saturday, January 6, 2001 to view tapes of the national kickoff meeting, possibly inviting other local teams. We also discussed a system for gathering money for buying tools. Everybody should donate approximately $10 by the kickoff meeting for buying tools and working towards a party at the end of the year. Tripp next discussed travel options for Florida: we will have a meeting on Thursday, December 21, 2000 regarding travel options required for all people who wish to go to Florida for both students and parents. Finally, we began the competition.

At the same time, Peter Jaffe revealed the new policies for website construction. The website section, for the moment, is dissolved, except for one person yet to be named who will take meeting notes.

Monday, November 13, 2000

The majority of the time at the meeting was dedicated to completing designs and foam board mock-ups for the prototypes. The shop will be open this Thursday for any group that has not yet entirely completed their model. The design and model must be complete at the start of next Monday's meeting.

For the remainder of the meeting we held a critical design review, CDR. The CDR will be continued next Monday for the remainder of the prototypes.

Regarding Travel: Mrs. Murtland needs to know who is planning on attending the Florida trip. If you know or even think you will be going please let her know by next Monday. Keep in mind it is possible to cancel a room reservation at a later date, however booking a room may not be, so if you have any doubts, still let her know. She is also taking room assignment, four people to a room.

Regarding Logo: Logo designs are due at the beginning of next Monday's meeting. They should be on regular sized sheet of paper in black and white only, no color. Our team name is Epsilon Delta.
