Background Information
The Herndon High School / NASA Headquarters FIRST Robotics Team, also known as Epsilon Delta, Team 116, participates annually in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This competition spending six weeks brainstorming, designing, constructing and testing a moderately sized robot that will participate in some challenge, usually a game, presented at the competition. During this time period, students learn various skills regarding engineering, physics, mathematics, time management, leadership, teamwork, creativity, and problem solving, and put the skills they have already learned at school into practice. The team has existed for three years at Herndon High School under the leadership of David Tripp, and has also enjoyed a strong partnership with the Headquarters of the National Air and Space Administration within the Robotics Educational Alliance program, and has enjoyed a great deal of support from local engineers, parents, and other teachers. The team consists of those participants already mentioned in addition to between twenty-five and thirty-five students each year.
